The ninth-ranked Duke Blue Devils had a surprising encounter with the Southern Indiana Tsunami Hawks in the Blue Devil Challenge, despite being heavily favored in the game. However, Duke ended up winning by a score of 80-62.

Kyle Filipovsky had 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Jeremy Roach scored 18 points. The Blue Devils trailed by 10 points at one point in the first half, but they outscored Southern Indiana 49-27 in the second half to seal the win.

"They played better than we did ........ [but] we did make some plays and started to come out in the second half," said Duke head coach Jon Scheer. Winning is good, but winning isn't just about winning, it's about playing your best.

The Dukes came back with a 7-0 run early in the second half. Jared McCain and Roach each hit three-pointers, and Filipovsky scored a layup and made a 1+1.

Southern Indiana cut the deficit to six with just over six minutes left in the game, but Duke went on a 10-0 rally to take the lead for good. Proctor had a dunk and Filipovsky made two free throws.

The Blue Devils' defense played much better in the second half. They limited Southern Indiana to 27 points and caused seven turnovers in the final 20 minutes.

"I think it showed what we can do in the right situations, putting pressure on the ball and affecting it," Scheer said.

With the win, Duke extended its winning streak to four games. The Blue Devils will face Charlotte next Saturday.
