New York Knicks guard Emmanuel Quickley became one of the few players in the 2020 class to fail to reach an agreement on a rookie contract extension by Monday's deadline. However, Quickley is optimistic about his future with the Knicks and is committed to improving his game for the 2023-24 season.
"I'm just focused on getting better and helping my team win," Quickley said on social media." I'm not worried about anything else."
Quickley exploded in 2022-23, averaging a career-high 14.9 points per game and shooting 45 percent from the field. He also helped the Knicks to a 47-35 record, good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Quickley will be a restricted free agent after the 2023-24 season. If he can maintain his efficiency from last season while improving his scoring, he will be a favorite to be on the free agent list next summer.
The Knicks are trying to make a name for themselves in the much-improved Eastern Conference. Quickley could force the New York side to have to open their checkbook in order to make a run at the 2023-24 season.
